Lotta’ Deviled Egg Recipes

Friday, April 6th, 2012

Our favorite of all of these deviled egg recipes was the Greek deviled egg and the runner up was the Chipotle deviled egg.

To be honest the traditional recipe for deviled eggs is also great.  My Gram always added sweet pickle relish and some of its juice, and a pinch of sugar to her deviled eggs (and egg salad).

Make sure you check out how to boil and peel the eggs for the best results here.

Happy Easter … as we head off to a Passover Party tonight!

Super Bowl Snack – Benny’s Blue Cheese Ball with Grapes and Pecans Recipe

Saturday, February 5th, 2011

This is a Mrs. Benny cheese-ball recipe.  It makes complete sense to have this on Super Bowl Sunday too because the Benny’s are the biggest Football Fans I know!

Benny’s Blue Cheese Ball with Grapes and Pecans Recipe

  • 4 ounces blue cheese, crumbled
  • 1-3 ounce package quality cream cheese
  • 1/4 pound seedless red grapes
  • 1 cup finely chopped, toasted pecans

Combine all of these ingredients in a bowl.  Then form it into a cheese ball!  Serve with Crackers (see picture above). You’re done – just cover and chill for at least an hour!  You could also roll it in pecans when it’s done for a nice presentation.

Still need a Homemade Holiday Gift? Tijuana Tidbits

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Chex Mix or Tijuana Tidbits?  You either love em’ or your hate em’ or you start munching on em’ and can’t stop.  Either way, party mix gets consumed and that seems to be what the holidays are all about!  AND, the lucky recipient of your TT’s won’t forget you because love and hate are strong emotions.  But really, this recipe is a little bit different.  My mom claims that Tijuana Tidbits are a snack mix that even men like.  I think she is onto something here.  Who knew that men liked em’ hot and sweet?

Tijuana Tidbits Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups tortilla chips, broken into 1 1/2” pieces
  • 3 cups Crispix cereal
  • 1 bag microwave popcorn popped (8-9cups)
  • 1, 12 ounce can of mixed cocktail nuts
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 TBSP chili powder
  • 1/8 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/8-1/4 tsp ground red pepper

Store in airtight container up to 2 weeks.

Cheese(y) Party #1: Unanimous Winner • Point Reyes Blue

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Props to our cheese addiction enabler, Michelle, who has fed us many varieties of cheese in the hopes that she can “keep us classy” at BITF. I think you need to feed us even more at an even greater frequency Michelle, you know, to truly sustain what blue is left in our blood.  I am even inventing a new column called “Cheese(y) Party” in your honor!

Cheeses in this Running Party #1:

Point Reyes Original Blue is aged for 6 months which gives it the deep blue veins and luscious, bold flavor.   This cheese isn’t really all that expensive, surprisingly, either.  It is about $16.99 a pound but we got a .215 chunk and it was enough for a five person appetizer (along with 4 other chunks of cheese).

A Quick Guide to the 5 Types of Cheeses

Cheese Party Tips:

  • DO – serve Wine & Cheese from same region, they often work well together.   Wine & Cheese Pairing Guide.
  • DO – serve one-half bottle of wine and 4 ounces of cheese per person
  • Do, I mean Don’t, I mean DO … over-serve the boos when you are low on money at your next wine & cheese party.  Everything will taste perfect even when you serve Velveta and a Port Cheese Ball.
  • DON’T- serve cream cheese & White Zinfandel unless it’s for a Christmas Sweater Holiday Party

CSA Food Box #20: Bruschetta with Sautéed Radishes

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

What to do with an accumulation of radishes?  This is it!  Make this quick appetizer before dinner for a tasty treat.  This recipe came from a Bon Appetit Magazine Recipe from a small restaurant, Taste, that sits next door to the larger dinner spot, Niche in St. Louis.  Taste is a spot for guests to get drinks and small plates before dinner. Taste calls this dish, Roasted Radish Bruschetta.  Also check out the creative cocktails served at Taste.

CSA Food Box #9: Fava Bean Dip Recipe – Foul Mudammes

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

OK, it must have taken us until this week to finally understand Fava Beans (i.e. shell them the proper way) and to find a recipe that makes them taste good.  This is the best Fava Bean Recipe that we have found so far!

Thanks to Martha Stewart I figured out that you need to do an initial de-podding of the Fava Beans. Then you need to boil them.  Then after boiling the Fava’s you need to blanch them in cold water for a few minutes.  After blanching the Fava’s you have to then peel them from their exterior shell to find a smaller greenish bean. Then they are ready to work with!
